Autumn Garden

After an entire summer of bountiful tomato harvesting, things have suddenly slowed down. We're really lucky to be having such a beautiful summer here in Portland, but the extended sunny days may end soon and the weather has cooled enough to discourage my tomatoes. Here is my harvest today - literally a handful of produce:
How is your garden faring in the autumn weather?

Nice! I got one potato and some undergrown rainbow chard. He. What did you do with your mini plethora?

Very nice. My mini garden is just about dead. I do still have some tomatoes hanging in there. Nice to have you back.

Lauren - I have big hands and small tomatoes!

Cinnamon - I am sticking the little tomatoes in a big pot of sauce I'm making. My chard didn't grow, and I didn't think to put in potatoes. Dang!

Brian - Hope you still get more life out of the tomatoes. I'm hoping to get more. Last year I had them ripening in my kitchen until December! And thanks - it's good to be back to blogging.

I've still got tomatoes, some undug potatoes, kale, & my second crop of figs is actually a crop this year, lol - they usually are hard & fall off - some are falling, but some are actually ripening!
& leeks, a few kohlrabi, & jersulem artichokes yet to harvest.

Dia,

Impressive! I am growing one kohlrabi but it's not looking promising. The snails really got to it. I think I'll try to grow leeks next year - I really like using them.

I am so jealous of your deer-free garden, but have really enjoyed the pics. Fresh produce just can't be beat. Next year I am putting up a taller fence!

There isn't too much of a deer problem here in the middle of Portland, Oregon! I guess I never stopped to count my blessings. I had rats eat my tomatoes last year, but a new neighbor's cat took care of that problem this year. Have you tried planting calendula? It's supposed to help, though I haven't tried it against anything bigger than a rat.
